It could be argued that Piers was destined to become a racing driver. His father Mel was for many years, one of the country’s leading prepares of racing mini’s via his Meltune concern and ran touring car and sportscar legend Steve Soper to Championship success.

Then there’s the name: Piers was named after the late Piers Courage, one of Britain’s most talented Grand Prix and sportscar drivers during the dangerous late 1960’s - one of Sir Frank Williams’ first drivers in Formula 1.
